I still know the EPA from the 80s and 90s all too well. At that time there was only one dish in a square aluminum can that fit exactly on the Espit stove, plus the fuel tablets that smelled of fish. Not to forget, we also had additional armor with us, the hard biscuits or also known as armor plates. Plus matches and Brand's dark chocolate. I treated myself to this for 15 years, but I actually preferred the food in the OHG^^

My husband served in the CAF for 38+ years. Some of the MREs were def better than others; however, when he joined in 1977 they were actually quite terrible. The Omelette MRE was referred to as the “human lung” and the Salisbury Steak was known as “The Track Pad”. Fortunately, as the best way to preserve the morale of the troops is to feed them well, they revamped the MRE selection and they actually became quite coveted by most foreign militaries. For example, while on exercise, the foreign troops would try to barter miscellaneous kit for Canadian MREs. Sadly, our military has been seriously underfunded ever since Trudeau took over and my husband has been retired for 10 years now so I can’t speak to what they are like now but for the sake of the troops I hope they are not too terrible. 😳
